|Title||An Outline History of the Chevy Chase Reading Class|
An Outline History of the Chevy Chase Reading Class founded in 1899 Chevy Chase, Md by Mesdames Verrill, Robertson, Bowen and Richards.
This leather bound booklet is a hand-written account of the history of the Chevy Chase Reading Class for the years 1899 to 1925. It contains handwritten lists of the membership and summaries of their annual reading programs. The pages are bound in a stamped leather cover with a ribbon as binding. The first and last few pages are badly damaged from contact with the leathercover . The first page especially - it is very brown which makes the ink hard to read.
The reading class began in 1899. Notes seem to get more comprehensive after 1910.
See also a photo of the Chevy Chase Reading Class, CCHS 1987.05.03. The date was unknown at the time it was accessioned, but it is probably c.1905, based on the membership at that time. (The Montgomery County Historical Society has a copy of the same photo, dated 1905.)
