"Woman's Home Companion" August 1903, The Crowell Publishing Co. This women's magazine includes a centerfold photo spread of famous country clubs, including Chevy Chase Country Club, on pages 22-23. "The Finest Country Clubs in America; Illustrating a Recent and Welcome Development in American Social Life Which is Rapidly Growing in Popularity in All Parts of the Country. See article on Page 39" The Chevy Chase Club photo os titled "Off with the Hounds - Chevy Chase Country Club, Near Washington," and shows members of the CCC hunt and their hounds in front of the main club building. The photograph is copyrighted by Burr McIntosh. The text on page 39, under the title "The Finest Country Clubs in America," includes this description of the Chevy Chase Club: "...The famous Chevy Chase Country Club, near Washington, numbers among its members many people prominent in government circles, and many diplomats. Here the tired Washingtonian can divert himself in in his leisure, and the Chevy Chase pack has some of the best hunting in America." |
